Usak has made a big contribution to national economy since the beginning of the 19th century by making industrial progress day after day while Usak was a small city in Aegean Area.
A- First Cotton Mill
Mills was built to produce yarns in a district of Usak at the last quarter of 19th century. Some famous people of Usak established a factory to produce carpet yarn and serge in 1898. After that other famous people of the city established yarn and serge mills in 1902, 1905, 1910. At the beginning of the 20th century there were few companies in Turkey for that reason opening of new companies was very important. 3 of 13 companies what produce wool yarn and wool weaving were in Usak according to industrial enumeration in 1913. These companies turned towards cashmere, serge and fabric weaving after Republican Revolution. Number of companies rise to 5 at first ten years of the Republic. There were 38 companies that produce wool yarn in 1967. In 1983 there were 78 workshops and mills that produce wool yarn and weaving.
B- First Sugar Mill
First Sugar Mill was opened in Usak in 17th of December 1926 by working of Nuri Bey who started to establish sugar mill before Republican Revolution. Company had a capacity what produce 6.000 tons sugar by processing 60.000 tons beet. So, first private equity was established in Turkey. It is important mill for Turkish economy in terms of being first Aggregate Corporation of republic period. Molasses residual of sugar production has been sent to places where produce alcohol. Usak retrieved a new company by establishing a spirit mill in 1931 in addition to Usak Sugar Mill.
C- The Anatolian City Where Using Electricity Firstly
Usak used electricity firstly in Anatolia after Thessaloniki. City was lightened in 1902 by supplying electricity with working of municipality. An electric company with a capital of 25.000 TL was established in the city center in 1931. In 6th of March 1932 a new electric company was established because of not meeting demands of former company.
